New SIM Showing As Invalid

I've had my new SIM-only SIM delivered tonight but the handset declares it to be invalid. The handset is locked to Orange but I was assured by an EE live chat operative earlier in the week that EE SIMs now work with such devices with no need to unlock. Is that actually the case & I just need to wait longer or have I been sold a pup?

@McMurtrie4  If it’s a device that’s locked to the orange network it will need to be unlocked use the EE network as they are separate networks. 

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.
