Locked phone query

I thought my phone was locked to vodafone and have been using a vodafone sim for last 2 years. Ive requested an unlock code and now Ive been told my phone is actually locked to ee!

I'm confused why does it let me use a vodafone sim then?

@Shell25   Where did you get the device from ?    If you are using a Voda phone sim in it and your told it’s locked to EE try using a O2 sim in it and see if that works.   If it does the device isn’t locked.

   But what device is it.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

Thanks for response. Its a samsung s9 phone that I bought 2nd hand a couple of years ago. I originally was led to believe it was unlocked but when I tried my existing ee sim card in it it wouldnt work. I tried a vodafone sim which worked, and have used this since, assuming it must have been locked to vodafone. Im now trying to get phone unlocked. Asked for vodafone unlock code but been told from an IMEI report that device is lockef to ee!!

I just dont understand if the phone has been locked to ee all this time.....

A) why didnt it accept my ee sim when I bought phone?

B) how has it let me use a vodafone sim for 2 years if its been locked to ee?

I'm not very tech savvy but now well confused........ 🙄

@Shell25  If an EE sim doesn’t work in it and a Voda sim does it’s definitely not locked to EE as the Voda sim wouldn’t work at all.

Think i'll just start from scratch again and retry my ee sim.  If that doesnt work i've got a new giffgaff sim somewhere I can try as thats O2.
