How to register a new simcard

What do I do if my number cannot be verified on my phone. I bought a new simcard at Heathrow Airport. Somehow EE cannot recognised the number.

EE standard opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 9pm - Saturday and Sunday, 8am to 8pm.

Just bought a pay as you go sim card . Having fitted it registers sim mot valid Why?
