I have a mobile wifi dongle which I bought ams a SIM card data only for, it worked ok. I’ve given the dongle to someone else and they have put their data only EE sim in and it says no sim...what can be wrong?  Is it because the dongle is registered to me? Thank you

@Aliandk  have they put the Sim card in the right way round ? You can put anyone’s EE sim in it and it will work.   Can you get it back and put your sim back in it to test ?

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

I have asked them and they have  tried another EE sim and still saying ‘no sim’ . I checked before I give them it and my iPad picked up the wifi signal ok but I had no EE sim to check. What else could it be. I’ve asked her to keep it on charge to fully charge and try again

Hi @Aliandk

Thanks for coming to the community.

Where did you purchase the WiFi device?

Can they try their EE SIM card in another device, does this show the same message?

Thanks.

Leanne.

Hi, I bought it from an EE shop at Durham about 4 years ago. I used it all working, then I’ve given it to someone today and she has a 100gb monthly data plan. She put it in, says no sim, she tried another sim...same. She has an account on EE as mine is now closed and I’ve asked her to add device to her account to see if that works. She uses the sim in her phone and it works. Any advice?

Hi @Aliandk

Thanks for the quick reply.

As long as the SIM card fits this should work in any EE device, this would not need registering on their account.

When was the last time you used an EE SIM card in the device?

Also, what WiFi device is it?

Thanks 🙂

Leanne.

Thanks..the last time must of been just over 2 years ago. It’s been sat in its box. I charged it up, and my iPad picked up the signal.  . Is it because it’s registered to me even though my account is closed?

Hi @Aliandk

It would still work with another EE SIM card even if it is registered to you.

Did you have an EE SIM card in the WiFi device when the iPad connected?

Could you access internet on the iPad when connected?

Leanne.

Hi Leanne, I thought it should work. There was no sim in the device when my iPad picked up the wifi. No I couldn’t access the Internet.

Something doesn't add up.

  1. EE devices come locked to EE.
  2. Have you ever had it unlocked?
  3. What SIM did you buy for it that worked OK?
  4. If you did not have it unlocked it can only be an EE SIM or 1 of its piggy-backers (MVNO).
  5. Yet you say you have no EE SIM to try.
  6. Even if you did not have it unlocked it should work with any EE SIM.
  7. Yet she says it does not work with an EE SIM that works in a phone.
  8. Connecting a device to it when no SIM present only tests the WiFi. It proves nowt about the SIM.
  9. Yet she should be able to do the same & get the same result.
  10. Does she?
