EE 4GEE Mini Mobile WiFi

My 95 year old Mother in Law lives in an area where the BT Broadband is abysmal. The easiest solution seems to be to buy an EE 4GEE Mini Mobile WiFi and then get a £20pm 120Gbpm contract. I have tested the 4G at her house as I am on EE and I tethered my iPhone and the up and down speeds are about 20-30 times better than BT.

I want to set it up at my house with the contract SIM and deliver it (she is 130miles away) so that it all work and then just unplug the BT modem. If all goes well I would terminate the BT BB for her. I am taking this route as she is a bit deaf and communication is hard.

Once she is happy and BT is turned off I'd like to transfer the month payment to my mother in law. I have a EE account. I am doing this as she will note cope with pay as you go nor would she cope with topping up. She should never use 120Gb in a month.

Also should there be unexpected problems I'd put BT back on and end the EE SIM only contract without troubling her to set up the direct debit

Advice on the feasibility of this and any problems would be appreciated

You need to call CS with both of you available on the line to carry out a change of ownership. She will need to pass a credit check.

OK, just noticed that you could just change the bill payer on your a/c but you'd still be responsible for it. But also this will also cover all your devices on your a/c; she'll be paying for them all.

Hi @Rex255 ,

I would recommend that yourself or another family member should hold the contract instead as elderly folk are often not the ideal people to become involved in debugging of technical issues or managing of mobile or internet contracts which both could require calls to the service provider. I think you will find more success with yourself or another family member providing technical support from a distance.

Edit: I guess the service user typically only needs to know how to restart the device, and how to instruct visitors on connecting to the device. It's probably worth putting a zero spending cap on the device so that (Per below, spending cap is not relevant to data usage.) Data usage can be monitored periodically to ensure all is well.

@mikeliuk :

  1. For that OP just needs to get M-I-L to authorise him to speak on her behalf in 1 joint call to CS.
  2. Spend Caps don't apply to data, only various types of calls & texts, which will be non-existent from this mobile router. Data usage is limited by the plan itself.
