Hi there,
So for the several months i’ve been using my iPhone 8 as a mobile hotspot for my Xbox One console as my home broadband is pretty terrible to say the least. However, in the last 6 weeks I can no longer connect to Party Chat whilst using my mobile hotspot which has never been an issue before. I understand that this is due to the NAT Type that my mobile hotspot has, so I’m considering buying a 4GEE Mobile Data Router but I think i’ll have the same issue of not being able to connect to Party Chat because my NAT Type will still be strict rather than Moderate or Open. Any help with this issue will be greatly appreciated.
Tom 🙂

Hi @tommyc3.
Welcome to the community.
Has anything changed recently with party chat that may be stopping you from using it?
Are you able to play online games using hotspot?

Hi Jon,
Thanks for the reply.
Nothing has changed in regards to my Xbox and the Party Chat feature, I can still play multiplayer games with no issue like I could do previously, I just can no longer use the Party Chat due to the NAT Type that my hotspot has according to my console, but this was never an issue before which is why I’m confused. (I was using my hotspot for my Xbox for about 6/7 months and Party Chat always worked)
One thing I did notice was 5/6 weeks ago the EE Mobile signal in my area was being a little bit weird for a couple days, I did report this to EE and they came back and said there wasn’t an issue and to be fair its been fine since then, but its almost like the signal being weird coincided with my Xbox no longer supporting Party Chat. Could it be the case that EE has changed the NAT Type of the Mobile Signal?

Have you spoken to Microsoft about this at all, @tommyc3?
For our mobile network, we use CGNAT.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the reply.
I have tried to contact microsoft about the issue but due to the current crisis you can’t contact them about this type of issue, only use an automated chat service which is completely useless.
My Xbox hasn’t updated or anything within the last 6 weeks so not sure why it would have changed, and looking at posts on Microsoft’s forums for the Xbox plenty of people have had the same issue as me over the last 24 months where it has worked for months on end then all of a sudden it no longer works, and all Microsoft say about it its due to the NAT Type which they can’t control.
I’m perfectly happy to purchase a 4GEE Router but only once I know that its not going to result in me still having a strict NAT Type.
Tom.

4GEE routers use the same mobile network, using CGNAT, so we couldn't guarantee it will work, @tommyc3.
You could try speaking to our Tech Gurus, to see if they're able to help further.
