Disabling NAT on EE Smart Hub

Hi

I am trying to have my EE Smart Hub act as close to a modem as possible - I know there isn't an actual "modem mode" available, but going by another topic I've seen on here I should be able to get the same effect by disabling my DHCP, WiFi and NAT.

The settings for WiFi and DHCP are easy enough to find, however I can't seem to find a setting anywhere for NAT? Does anyone know where in the settings this is located?

Don't think you can but disabling DHCP shouldn't need any NAT. You might need to enable DHCP & make its range 1 IP wide to accommodate the subsidiary router you will be connecting to it.

If you disable NAT on your router, what device do you intend to use to take over the job of the router (which is to route packets between your private network and the service provider's network and ultimately the internet)?

I think it's fair to assume the OP wishes to use his own router which doesn't have a built in modem, hence wanting to set the hub as close to modem mode as possible.

Yep, I probably should've expanded on that but it's so I can use another router (a Netduma one, not that makes any difference).

Can the Netduma router replace the EE Smart Hub entirely as that would be by far the simpler configuration?

Edit4: no ADSL functionality: router-only (Amazon said compatible with ADSL which I misinterpreted).

The second simplest configuration would be double-NAT (especially if you cannot disable NAT on the EE router).

Edit: a quick search on this forum suggests the EE Smart Hub cannot be placed into bridge mode so you may need to live with NAT there. If you do find an undocumented way around that, I would be interested to hear of it. Many routers support either ADSL (or modern equivalent) or a cable connection so there's a fair chance your Netduma could be used as the outer router depending on it capabilities. 🤓

Edit2: if you cannot disable NAT, it's pointless to disable DHCP as you give yourself a static IP assignment problem for no benefit.

Edit3: to clarify, if the Netduma is NATed too, it will NAT using its private IP address and it doesn't much matter what that is. The only other play would be to have the Netduma bridge but it would be a specialist use case where that is of any benefit. 🤓

No, the Netduma R1 & R2 routers cannot replace the EE SH. They have no modem & expect to to be WAN-fed by a suitable modem. That's why the OP wants to make his EE SH as close to a modem as poss.
