Delayed SMS Android 11

My Xperia 1 received its latest update yesterday that was a major one pushing it from Android 10 to 11.

Since the upgrade, I've had to wait anything upwards of half an hour for SMS messages to arrive, when they used to be received within a second.

Factory reset, as annoying as it is, solved it for me!

My text messages were sending and receiving perfeclty fine until I upgraded my Sony Xperia 1 to Android 11 as soon as the update arrived this week.

Immediately after doing so, my phone had issues sending and receiving SMS messages, in some cases it takes up to an hour, in other cases the messages don't get received at all.

I restarted my phone, made sure my network messaging settings were downloaded, and I ensured everything was up to date on my phone update settings and in the play store.

When I sent myself a message it delivered instantly (I could see it in both sides of the Messages conversation with myself), so it didn't seem to be the EE Message Centre at fault.

I posted a topic here asking for support and it was recommended that I reset my phone, so I reset it to factory settings last night. Immediately, SMS messages were sending and receiving instantly again, so all seemed fixed. Overnight the issue has returned. The problem seems worse now, with most messages I'm expecting not arriving at all.

I tried texting myself, and only 1 in 10 messages arrived, and it was after an hour. I messaged BALANCE to 150 and got nothing back. The phone says "Delivered" under my message in all cases, so it seems sending is fine, it's just the receiving. I've asked someone to text me and they did but I didn't receive it. The worst part is that I have many accounts with two-step authentication tied to my mobile number, so I'm locked out of those until I can get this fixed.

Having already reset my phone to factory settings yesterday I'm not keen to try again.

Unfortunately it was only a temporary fix

Hi @peda,

If you are still experiencing the same issue after the factory reset, I'd recommend getting in touch with Customer Care so our Tech Gurus take a detailed look at the issue for you.

They'll be happy to help. 🙂

Thanks James, I had a feeling that would be the next step.
