Data retention sim

When I upgraded to my second iPad (iPad mini 4 ) from my iPad Air I had the option of having a data retention sim. Does the retention sim only work with my first iPad or will the sim work in any iPad that I get ?

Hi @Anth7 ,

Apologies for my ignorance, what is a data retention SIM and how does it differ from a mobile phone SIM or a data SIM?

Maybe someone more knowledgeable can tell you more. When I upgraded my iPad , the customer service agent told me I can still get data (use internet, message) for 12 months with a data retention sim. With the plan  I have 1000mb/1gb of data . To be honest I don’t think there is much difference. To sum it up limited GB for a lower price.

On reflection, it sounds like you've been given a retention offer so that you are less likely to take your business elsewhere. That it's a data SIM probably means it has no minutes or text messages as part of its allowance, in contrast to a mobile phone SIM.

Hi @Anth7

Thanks for coming to the community.

Your SIM card will work in the iPad and use the same plan if you have not requested to change this 🙂

Thanks.

Leanne.
