Cancel with old provider before number is ported?

Hi all,

I have ordered and activated my EE Sim and also requested my old phone number to be transferred to the new sim using the Pac code. It said that it will take up to 5 days but I want to terminate my account with my old provider in one or two days time so I don't pay double.

So, my question is: Will the number transferral still work if I cancel my old plan? I understand that in order to use a Pac the number has to be active but does it have to be active until the transfer is complete or can I cancel my old plan even if it takes EE another few days to change the number on the sim?

Many thanks for your help in advance

Karo.

Hi @karo_temi

No, the PAC process migrates your number and also serves as cancellation notice with your old provider.

If you cancel your account with your old provider outside the PAC process, then the number port could potentially fail.

You certainly shouldn't be charged by both providers except for maybe the actual day of transfer.

I see. Thank you very much. Well I hope the process will be complete before they renew my goody bag on Friday night (it renews automatically).

This was very helpful.

Cheers.

If you're concerned, or it's particularly important, call EE C/S directly and check. In order for the process to be completed before Friday, it would need to be submitted by 5.30pm Wednesday to then complete by COP Thursday.
