Apple Watch not using cellular data when iPhone switched off.

I recently bought an Apple Watch with unlimited data plan but it is not connecting when I switch iPhone off. Is there something I need to do?

@CheleBelle   You set the plan up via the watch app after you have paired it to your phone.

Perhaps your Apple Watch is inadvertently connecting to wifi when you are trying to do this.

I think the Apple Watch will connect to wifi first, rather than cellular, in order to save battery (cellular use on the Apple Watch uses more battery than Bluetooth, wifi).

Try turning wifi off, from on the Apple Watch by swiping up from the bottom of the screen and touching the icon I have shown below, and see if that makes any difference.
