I have been told by EE customer support and the community members generally tell other users that activating an eSIM abroad is not possible. Well, that is just another thing they know nothing about.
I was successfully able to activate my eSIM from Canada with a new QR code that i was sent over from the UK as a phone picture.
Second, I kept using the roaming abroad add-on for more than 6 months and I have never had issues with "Fair use Policy" terms.
Third, if you are in Canada and you cannot afford a local sim (quite expensive) just get an EE eSIM and use it in roaming with the add-on. I really think that the eSIM isn't supposed to work like this, and i bet that it's a software glitch (nothing to be surprised of).
Just enjoy your 20/25£ a month sim deal compared to 60/80£ deals that you get here in Ontario, Canada for just 50GB.
Just to clarify the probably angry staff, I am in the UK now and I am using a physical sim
:{P
You are welcome!

@abdulzeedo1 Please show where you have read you can not activate an eSim abroad. The activation of an eSim is just moving the information from a physical sim to the eSim that’s built in to the device and this is done all on the device with no network involvement. You can not activate a sim while out of the uk on a roaming network but to activate an eSim you just need a working sim within the device. And in case you’ve not realised there is a world wide issue at the moment so roaming rules have probably been relaxed as some customers can not get back to the uk.

@abdulzeedo1 I’ve replied to your other post. And if customer services are informing you of that can you please show a link to what you have been told here. No one here has said it’s not possible to activate an eSim while out of the uk as it’s device based and has nothing to do with a network connection. And just to add customer services have nothing to do with this public forum.

here!! Get back to me now @Chris_B @BrendonH
and you know what the ignorant CR people say? They literally say that your phone has to be close to a UK cell tower. So pardon me if I try to correct their wrongs, but it is what it is!

@abdulzeedo1 Did you actually read what was in that link. Here let me inform you.
eSims will only be posted to a UK address. that’s posted.
A SIM card can only be activated within the UK. That’s a SIM card not eSim
where does it’s say anything about switching over to a eSim when abroad from already working SIM card. It was an already working eSim in a iPhone.
the original poster of that thread was already using an eSim but wanted to switch this to a different device and a SIM card will of been needed and that sim will of needed to of been activated in the UK first, once activated you can migrate the information from the sim to a eSim in any country. You need to read and understand what the original poster was trying to do.
