4g hub dropping devices after 30 minutes

Hello. My husband works for BT so gets free Fibre through BT, however we max out at 10 download but worse is the .03 upload, not great for teams calls he needs for his job.

So we just realised 4g would be better and bought an EE unlimited data sim, speeds are great, 35-70 download depending on time of day, 1-10 upload. However we have a big problem, my husbands laptop and desktop computer disconnect from my hub after 30 minutes.

We have the Huawei B535 4g Hub and it was working fine using my husbands work BT sim card for a few days. Yesterday EE sim comes and his laptop keeps disconnecting, dropping him from conf calls. It then takes 1-3 mins to reconnect.

When laptop drops a prime video continues to place on another device, proving 4g connection is stable. Also speed test on mobile at same time confirms the same.

Laptop drops when connected via wifi, but also the same when using powerline adapters, so not a wifi issue.

Desktop pc playing prime video lost wifi after about 30 mins, confirms problem.

Mobile played 1 hour prime no problem. (3g turned off, only used wifi)

Tablet played 1 hour video no problem.

Spoke to EE technical support, they refreshed my account details, confirmed signal good to area and are sending out a new sim card, to rule that out.

My thought is the problem must be the B535 hub, what else could it be? Technically we have ruled this out because the BT sim works perfect.

Lastly teams calls on laptop have trouble connecting on the EE sim, takes a few tries. 100% first time on BT. I have fiddled with every setting on the hub, search all over google but alas cannot find anything.

Any help/ideas much appreciated.

Hi @Kate1787,

Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂

We can rule out a network issue as the other devices are unaffected.

I'd recommend getting back in touch with Customer Care so our Tech Gurus can run through some more diagnostics with you.

Thanks

James

Hello, thank you for your response.

I fixed this, well at least I am 2 hours in with no drop. Santander app doesnt work over IPV6, after changing to IPV4 on my hub the drops have stopped.

Will monitor and try new sim if needed.
