Ported number but iPhone won’t change

Hey all.

I’ve received a text from EE saying my old number has successfully ported over from my old phone.

I can ring people and it shows the correct number.

people who ring me on the correct number I can get these calls.

However my iPhone displays the temporary number and I can’t change this. I have power cycled the phone, turned iMessage and FaceTime off. However I still cannot change the number for my actual number.

@Martynmordecai   Leave iMessages and FaceTime off then restart the phone then check your number if that then shows correctly you can enable iMessage and FaceTime.  If it’s still wrong try restarting the device a few time with iMessage FaceTime off.   Do not enable iMessage and FaceTime until your number shows correctly.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

This was the solution that worked for me! Thank you! It was driving me mad all day! 😅

Very helpful!!!

This actually worked for me and appreciate the tip. When I logged back in and I saw the old number over there I wouldn´t click it cause I though it was gonna add the same old number but after selecting the old one it updated to the new one automatically. Appreciate it so much !

Thanks for coming here and letting us know @gambofly

Have a great day,

Thanks for this, this is still the solution on iOS 17.

(For others who are doing this on iOS 17 and wondered where the 'sign out of messages' button has gone, you now click the blue text that shows your apple ID and it'll offer you a sign out option.)

Thank you. That was exactly the solution I needed. Clearly EE need to work on the porting information as this could be tied in to the software installation when it asks you which number you want as the primary number. Maybe I should have selected the new number at that point and not my existing number. Logic dictated to me that I wanted to continue to use my existing number which may have been a mistake.

Thank you for this simple but accurate solution.

Thanks so much for this info. Just ported to EE and the agent was clueless, - 'Just wait a few days', followed the advice here to switch off iMessage and FaceTime, turn it back on, select the 'old' number, and it immediately changed to my ported number. 🙂

Yep. Thank you #MAS8.
As unintuitive as it sounds, going into iMessage and clicking on the original SIM number supplied by EE worked for me. It corrected itself straight away on selection to show my ported number. Rinse and repeat for FaceTime. Then go back to Mobile Data screen and the correct ported number should now show against your Primary SIM.
For some reason my phone had defaulted back to this number following a HolaFly eSIM installation.
