I am wondering if my mobile is locked to EE. I am travelling to Japan and would like to buy a local SIM when I am there (but phone needs to be unlocked)

@david_ARD : You can just apply for unlocking by using the Unlocking your device form and giving its IMEI no., which you can obtain be dialling *#06# into its keypad.

What device do you have and when did you get it.
You could also try a 99p SIM from the supermarket.
Thanks

It is a Samsung A40.......I have had it for 3-4 years. It is out of contract and I am now on a SIM only contract.
I can buy a physical SIM in japan or an e-SIM....but the phone has to be unlocked

As per the previous reply, all phones sold in the UK since Dec 2021 must be unlocked. The acid test is to test it using a non-EE SIM. Whether that's physical or electronic is immaterial.
