If you currently have a BT branded TV Box Pro then you may be able to keep it, rather than swapping - it still offers all the same features.
If you don't have a TV Box Pro then one will be provided, and you'll most likely be asked to return any box you currently have (depending how long you've had it). It's not possible to transfer recordings between boxes, so yes - you'll lose them.

@JL1951 Yes because they will not be on the new box.

Interesting to read your reply. We are just about to swap over to a new EE box so I understand we would lose recordings but what happens to any purchases of films/series/box sets we have bought through BT?

Purchases/rentals are held on the account, so they're available across all boxes as well as the EE TV app on mobiles, tablets, Samsung TV, Apple TV, Fire TV, Chromecast, and at https://player.ee.co.uk
These purchases also carry across to EE if you move from BT.
