tv box pro remote does not switch o/0ff  tv. It only works the box.

The old box had a code unique to tv brand.

The new remote relies on your TV declaring what it is via the HDMI connection.  The TV Box then programmes the remote automatically.  This doesn't work for all TVs though.  Hold down Home + 9 on the remote until the lights flash to force it to re-pair again now.

For turning your TV on, this should happen automatically via HDMI-CEC.  Some TVs only support this on specific HDMI ports - is it in the same port that the previous box was?  Are you able to try different ports?

For turning the TV off, you need to hold the power button for 2 seconds - this should then turn the TV Box and TV off.  If you just press it briefly, it'll only turn off the TV Box.

@Gerry1812

The way it is supposed to work is that when powered up, the Pro box will interrogate the TV over the HDMI cable, and then programme itself to operate that make and model of TV.

However, if you follow the setup instructions literally, this may not happen; the first mention of plugging the HDMI cable into the TV is on page 4, after the relevant pairing step described on page 3, which requires this connection.

It also doesn’t tell you to turn your TV on, though perhaps it can get the information it needs without, as HDMI interrogation doesn’t actually need the TV on.

So if you didn’t plug the HDMI cable into the TV before this step, reset the remote with Home & 9, and then re-pair it with Home & 7:-

But if you did all that, than what make and model of TV have you got? Sometimes this won’t be recognised.

The automatic setup of the remote is all very well, but there really needs to be a manual fallback to the codes system when it fails 😢

Hi Darren, interesting to read that the TV declares itself to the box/remote. I had a similar problem to this but with the volume. I guess a 15 year old Pioneer TV connected via HDMI through a sound bar is unlikely to ever work.

@Wh21

Do I understand by that that you have the Box Pro plugged into the soundbar, and not directly into the TV?

Nothing wrong with that per se, but it means that the Box Pro will be trying to pair with the soundbar, not the TV.

The solution is to plug the Box Pro into the TV, repeat the pairing (hoping it will pick up the 15-year-old Pioneer OK), and once the remote is paired OK, move the Box Pro back to where you had it on the soundbar.

Apologies for late reply, have been on holiday in Dorset (wet!). I have tried everything here, and more, but to no avail:

Hold down Home + 7, ditto 9; ditto reverse order

Other HDMI ports

Holding the power button for 2 seconds (or 3, or 4)

The tv is a 2023 Samsung that worked on the old box.

The new remote operates the tv volume, just not the on/off.  Not quite the end of the world, though.

Hi, did you ever find a way around this? I've been deep into the forums, tried multiple reset/restarts but can only

1. If in TV mode : sound doesn't work

2. If in set top box mode: on and off doesn't work.

I have a Toshiba TV and the old remote can be used, it's just annoying!

Thanks

@Bumbalaa

I take it that when you say sound doesn’t work, you mean there is sound, but you can’t adjust the level of it?

Your Toshiba is actually made by Vestel. If it declares itself as Vestel, and uses Vestel remote codes, then this shouldn’t matter. But if it declares itself as Vestel but uses Toshiba remote codes, then the Box Pro setup will set itself for Vestel, and so send the wrong codes to control the volume.

You might want to ask Toshiba if this is the case or not.

The code-detecting feature on the Box Pro is great when it works, but there really needs to be a manual override for when it doesn’t.

The nearest you can get, if you can use line of sight, is to source a remote for one of the older BT boxes, DTR-T4000 or earlier, which will still control the Box Pro, but will let you manually choose which manufacturer’s code set to use.

Or get a One For All remote, which you can set up both for YouView and for the TV manufacturer, if it’s been badge engineered.

Hi.

Know it's an old topic but I'm having the same problem.  Tried everything but my mini box remote won't control my JVC TV in bedroom.

Has anyone got any advice on what would be the best All for.One remote to buy that would control the new EE mini box please?

Cheers in advance
