Now Ultra boost

I know this has been asked many times before but there doesn’t seem to have been anything new posted in a few months. Is there any news on the Ultra boost being available?

I’ve noticed the option actually now shows if I login to Now but obviously it doesn’t let me purchase.

I got lost somewhere, where you were asking me a question that would require sight of the YouView source code to answer, which of course I don’t have. But I can’t find the question again 😢

Just a bit more insight into these things though - the Now app will be communicating with the YouView box through an API, Applications Programme Interface (and possibly several), and that is the only sight of the underlying YouView software and firmware it gets. So the box may support UHD and Atmos and other goodies, but that’s not enough; these features need to be exposed to Now via that API, and if they are not, then as far as Now is concerned, the Box might just as well not have these things.

So YouView have to construct a new API, with these functions and methods exposed, so that Now can use them, and use them according to dictates that Now specify.

Shouldn't be overly complicated, and there are plenty of precedents set in the APIs for apps that do support UHD and Atmos - UHD as far back as the T4000, even if HDR and Atmos only came with the Box Pro.

But it’s not enough just to point to these features being on the Box; Now can’t reach out and use them just because they are there, it needs YouView to expose them (as we say) in an API that Now can use.

Happy to agree the time it’s taking is not ideal 😛

Anyone seen/heard anything new on this? Seems ridiculous at this point.

4 month later….. and still nothing?

It has been at least 6 months since I've seen anything on this and the mythical system upgrade needed to allow. Anything new? @DarrenDev

I'd love to give you an update, but unfortunately I'm not allowed. No updates or clues will be given until an announcement is made.

Hi Darren, are you able to at least tell us if this is still an active project that EE are working with Sky on? If so, it does give people hope that it’s coming at some point hopefully this year. If not, we can make a decision whether or not to get EE TV knowing that Now UHD isn’t going to be an option. Thank you.

It's a mandatory task - we MUST adopt the Ultra Boost add-on, as part of our partner status with Now TV. I cannot set any expectations on when though.

I wish I could say more. I really do.

This is a joke, I joined EETV  May 24, I’ve been waiting for Ultra Boost since it was announced, my 2yr contract is about to end and I’m leaving cos I want to watch my very expensive sports in 4K, it doesn’t take 2 years for EE to charge me a few extra on top of HD boost and let me watch 4K, even if it was only through the now app and not via the EETV Pro Box channels, Now know I have a subscription, they know I have HD boost, why wouldn’t they know I’m paying for Ultra Boost? Absolute joke.

Hi @Pilchread,

Welcome to the Community!

Unfortunately the systems connecting EE with Now TV are very complex, both for us to add it to your account, and for them to bill through us for it. It's a major task that is taking a lot longer than expected. Unfortunately, we're still unable to offer any suggestions on when it may become available to order.

Rach

Rach says unable to offer any suggestions,,,, we'll here is one, cancel all now TV options via ee, go to now, make a new account, use a now app get it all in uhd and cheaper,
