Not being able to record on minibox or watch recordings

DrPepper3

We've just changed from Sky to EE. Upon setting TV up it looks like you can't record from a mini box but only from the main box, and if I'm right, what is more concerning is we can't watch our recordings on any other box other than the main one.  Is this correct? If we had another primary box, could we watch our recordings on that?

I hope someone will clarify

Hi @DrPepper3  each (recordable  EETV) box recordings are specific to that box so can only be played back on that box.

@Ronb123

The pup you’ve been sold is that you can’t record on the Box Minis, and you can’t replay content from the Box Pro on them.

So not the experience you were expecting perhaps, but I don’t think it invalidates the content promise, at least as far as Sky programmes go.

Can those Sky mini boxes actually record, or do they just relay the request to the main box?

However, this is one big difference from Sky that the EETV Guides should be making everyone thinking of migrating from Sky to EETV fully aware of, so that it can inform their decision.

@Midnight_Voice  The Sky Mini Boxes do not have a hard drive

It’s also worth pointing out that if you go to Sky as a completely new customer, it is almost impossible to find how to sign up for SkyQ now. The only way, that I could find, is to go to sky.com/tv/sky-q directly in your browser, which I am sure is not marketed as such now. Everything now is geared on steering you towards the streaming box or glass tv. In fact the FAQ’s that a new customer would likely alight upon, specifically state the following

I must take exception to DarrenDec (an EE Product Expert ?) who states that it wouldn't be blocked if you choose to buy one (a recordable box) from elsewhere.

Like Dr Pepper 3 I changed to EE but in my caseI came from BT. I had previously used two TV Box Pros and amazingly EE gave me a third box FOC. I never tried to use the third box because I couldn't get the two from BT to work alongside each other. EE's solution to the problem was to give me a TV Box Mini, also FOC.

Seems to me I made a mistake in moving from BT to EE who don't seem to know what they're talking about when it comes to Boxes! That realisation is confirmed when I try and force EE to talk about the problem but give up after waiting for them to answer their telephone number 150 when I call them.

Sorry @ChrisT71 - I don't actually understand your issue.

What problem are you having?

Nothing I've said is untrue or incorrect.

The only problem I'm having is due to my transfer to EE. They can't seem to handle me having two TV Box Pros and gave me a FOC Mini to work in place of the second Pro. So in my experience, EE can't handle two Pros on the same site.

@ChrisT71 they gave you a TV Box Edge as it was the only way the ordering system would allow them to add a multi-room subscription to your account.  Your account will now allow 2 boxes to be used at the same time for subscription content - either both your TV Box Pro, or a Pro and an Edge.

You will see a message saying you're using too many boxes - just accept it, to enable the current box.  2 boxes can be enabled before it'll show you the message again.

You only needed the multi-room subscription if you wanted to use more than 1 box to watch subscription content (or channels in Internet Mode) at the same time.  If you were only using one at a time, you could switch the active subscription back and forth without issue.  Also, if you were using a TV aerial, it wouldn't need a subscription for all the Freeview channels - you could use as many boxes as you like at the same time for those.

If you only want to use the 2 x TV Box Pro, then feel free to return the TV Box Edge so that it can be reused.
