I know a few people have been on the trial and this news has been knocking around on other forums in dribs and drabs, but it is good to finally get confirmation that the new NOW app will start rolling out from 18th February.

BT/EE TV boxes and the Apple TV 4K are supported.

Story here (other sources are available): Cordbusters - Sky’s NOW Is About To Get Its Biggest Shake-up Yet

The upcoming changes, announced today and coming in February, are more than just a fresh coat of paint.

NOW is migrating to NBCUniversal’s Global Streaming Platform – the same technology that powers Peacock in the US and SkyShowtime in Europe.

You can find out more about the new features you can expect directly from NOW here: New features on NOW

Highlights (for me) are:

  1. Redesigned home page and a fresh look throughout
  2. Up to 6 profiles with personalised recommendations and watchlist
  3. Kids profiles
  4. Enhanced sports section

Looking forward to seeing how these changes impact the user experience, whoever gets the update first is contractually bound to update this thread with feedback! 🤣

@Profile closed great news. Been looking forward to this with high hopes.

@Minkey1 the cordbusters email round up usually comes on a Saturday for me. Busy week with all the other news. I usually pick up it's news on Facebook

Interesting news and I wonder how sports will be improved.  Really hoping for the following:

1. Option to watch from beginning or live

2. Faster on demand availability.  Ideally like any other streaming service who make it available almost instantly after the event has finished.

I would also like to see those features @jonathanteague, although you have to wonder if Sky will go that far because, on excellent hardware like an Apple TV 4K, a fully featured NOW app is a Sky Stream killer IMHO.

I always used to think of Now as a kind of Sky Lite, but if the offer is improved they could end up with a VW/Skoda situation - same bang for less bucks and unintended consequences 🤔

I think you should temper your expectations about it launching on any YouView EE devices on the date they have mentioned.

Especially if there are any changes to the structure or delivery of content, or code needs to be updated at a software level.

Considering that EE still doesn’t offer Now in UHD (despite the ulticast streams continuing to test in the background). Both have presumably been in the works for awhile, and there’s still so no sign of any EE devices getting UHD.

Have Now or EE actually confirmed these changes will happen at the same time as other devices?

I’d say you should be holding out for it to be launching on Apple TV, because that’s most likely place it’ll launch first - negating the complicated arrangement of YouView, Sky and EE working together.

I imagine Roku sticks, fire sticks and apple TV boxes will have the updated app first.

Everything seems to take a little while longer on youview boxes, but who knows, they might have access to it behind the scenes to get an update ready being pro active.

I’m not sure what will arrive quicker, the new NOW app or the official picture supplied by Sky I shared in my original post? 🤣
