Hello. Migrated to EE from BT a few months ago. The router and Tv box have a wired rather than a Wi-Fi connection and all the channels and apps are ok. The problem is that the connection between the devices fails at random times and I have to restart the connection sequence. Sometimes the automatic connection works, and other times I plug the cable into a different socket on the router (advice from EE). This has been discussed several times with EE and I was sent and installed a replacement router. Could it be a cable fault perhaps, as both devices work properly when connected?

An update, but not the one I’d hoped for. Cat 8 cable duly received and connected between the router and Tv box, but the connection is still dropping between the two. Running through the restart connection sequence for the last five minutes or so. Plugged the cable into a different port on the router and all, for the moment at least, is connected. I’d very much like to get to the bottom of this!

A new ethernet cable was the low hanging fruit. Youve replaced that, and the router. That only leaves the TV box. I wonder if it's the ethernet socket on the box, and trying the cable in a different router socket just slightly "waggles" the connection at the other end? Fresh out of ideas if it goes again. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

Thanks for that. A chat with EE after posting, and a suggestion of swapping the HDMI cable for another, which I’ve done. I’ll monitor that, and suppose if that doesn’t work a replacement Tv box.

Incidentally, although I’d not previously heard of it, the speed to the Tv box can be checked via ‘help’ in Netflix. I’ve done that too, and when connected the speed is good.

Not sure what the HDMI audio/video connection twixt TV box and TV has to do with the internet connection between TV box and router, but anything’s worth a try 🤷🏼

Nor me, really, other than that the lost connection message appears on the Tv screen presumably via the HDMI, if that makes sense.

Yes, the TV box itself has no screen, so can only show you error etc messages via the TV it's connected to over HDMI.

Yes - what I’m getting at is that if there was a defect in the HDMI cable it could show on the Tv as a broken connection to the net. Clutching at straws.

And with all respect, I think that *is* clutching at straws.
Unless I’m more wrong than a wrong man on Planet Wrong, a faulty HDMI standard lead would show in video or audio issues on the display kit it outputs to, not upstream internet connection problems.
I may be wrong. It won’t be the first time 🤷🏼

Thought I was the sole inhabitant on that planet! Connection solid so far but of course I’ll monitor. Thanks for the thoughts. Ian
