Scam or not?

I had a call from the number 0191 429 7590, asking me to screen share so that they could show me some loyalty offers. When I said I suspected a scam they got quite persistent. Although I thought the call was probably genuine as they had sennt me a pin which appeared to be from EE, their persistence led to me terminating the call. I then rang EE to ask if call was genuine and they couldn't tell me, just asked me to block the number and report to their fraud. department.

I don't see that number on the link provided,https://ee.co.uk/help/profile/manage/phone-calls-from-our-partners. or any others beginning 0191.

So... wax the call genuine or a scam?

Honestly, I treat ALL calls & messages (& e-mails) from numbers I don’t recognise as a scam. I don’t get involved in a conversation, just say hello & as soon as they start trying to sell or ask any info I just hang up, block the number & report as phishing. If it’s a genuine call they’ll try again.

Ok thanks, I hadn't realised that there were hidden phone numbers on the link list, that only show when  you click on the word 'inspired'. Teach me to read the advice carefully rather than quickly scanning!

Given that the number was genuine, then why couldn't EE verify it when I rang to check?

The caller told me that nobody had ever questioned the veracity of the call before...  exactly what a scammed would say! He got annoyed at my hesitancy which didn't seem the most professional response.

They did call many times before getting to speak to me. But didn't call after I put phone down.

It appears that they were genuine, but didn't accept my right to be cautious.

Hi @nosignalbox

I can understand the need to be wary of calls like this.

I'm really not sure why the person you spoke to was not able to identify that it was a call from a genuine EE partner. I'll pass that on to make sure that it is fed back to our front line teams.
