Scam Caller tried accessing EE account and email account

I stupidly fell for a scam call today, must've been on the phone for around 18 mins before I clocked. they called me on 07517 379578 - this did raise a few suspicions anyway being a random mobile number, they called me about the fact they were going to issue me with a new sim due to the poor network & signal everyone had been receiving (I am a new customer, only been with EE for 3 weeks and have had worse service than when I was with Three Mobile, which I didn't think was possible!) so I stupidly went along. They said something a little off, like "I can see your a long time customer, and because of this we would like to offer you 40% discount on your next bill" at which point, I asked if this was a scam because you would know I haven't been with you long and you should be able to see this" and they said no sorry and verified my full name and number to try convince me otherwise. Then I was asked to confirm the email on my account for identity purposes and then sent me PIN codes from EE's actual numbers to confirm my account. So at this point, I thought, well if they are sending codes from actual EE numbers that I have received texts from previously - must be legit. They sent them to both my phone and my email and then gave them back to him over the phone. He then told me to write down some info, said his name was Daniel, ID # 0997, Ext # 800 and the call back number was 0208 133 5175. He then said can you send me the last pin code I sent you via text (which this time was from Yahoo) so I said absolutely not, why would I give you my Yahoo code?! they then said that wasn't from them, and sent me another one from EE. At this point, I'd provided about 5 codes... they then told me how much I paid for my last bill, took of 40% told me my next bill would be a lot cheaper due to the inconvenience. Then the phone line cut out. I then googled both the numbers and it was coming up with potential fraud I then checked my emails and saw my EE password had been changed, quickly contacted EE to check my account and they said it all looked fine, so I managed to change my password back. Froze my bank, just on the off chance they could access my banking info but EE assured me they couldn't?! Is this true? I'm now stressing out, I haven't clicked any links but they must have been on my EE account to know all my information, how do I know my banking info is safe?! I called the call back number kicking off about being scammed and the guy went all quiet.. I normally ignore random numbers, so will be doing so from now on!!

Have reported it to the number you provided - thank you!

Hi!

A similar thing just happened to me. She said her name was Anna and gave that same number to call back on, when I refused to give out my email address – she said to ask for the technical dept. and stressed that I needed to speak only to her, when I called 020 8133 5175. Probably the scammers are paid on commission?! I won't be calling the number, obviously. I googled it and that is why I am here in the forum, because the story above came up.

I was immediately suspicious being told that my phone would stop working in a couple of days, so I would be sent a new free SIM. I am sure, if I had given my email address to add to my phone number (which they obviously have and kept mentioning "ends in XXXX") this was the start of profiling to enable them to piece together the means to access my bank accounts. Next of course she would have wanted my postal address, supposedly to send the SIM to tomorrow.

I expect she might call back. She said she would be waiting, but I said I'd got meetings so it would be a while. I'll give her a piece of my mind if she tries again.

What is your advice Katie? Just leave it to you to issue a scam warning to EE customers? The number the call came in on showed as 07821 353393. I hope this message is helpful in the fight against these criminals.
