Photo/Video Message Text - Scam?

I received a text notification from someone in my contacts saying that a photo/video message was sent to me, but couldn't be delivered. It said that a message will follow on how to view it and it gave a password. As it was from someone in my contacts, I stupidly clicked on the link and entered my mobile number and the password. It came up with just a brief text message say 'Are you awake?'.

The person in my contacts said they hadn't sent me anything when I asked, so now I'm really worried about malware. Has anyone had this/is it a scam, or could the message have been sent in error?

Hi

how can it be a genuine EE message if it didn’t come from them. I’ve just had the same and it didn’t come from the person it said.

Hi @KeithCov.

Welcome to the community.

I'm not sure what you mean. Are your MMS settings set up?

Have you set up your MMS settings, @Src_lowe?

Chris

No & neither has the person I received the txt notification from, so it must be junk/spam ?

Thanks I've set up my phone so I now receive photo messages. However I can't find out how to get the messages that were sent, to see them. They are there and it gives my number and a password. How do I view these messages?

Hello @markhoward

Was a link provided via text?

Katie

Morning,

I have had a similar text message yesterday from ‘EEMMS’ saying “You have received a Picture Message from <phone number>. To view the message, visit https://get.mms.ee.co.uk/ee/ and use your mobile number <phone number> with the password <password>.

can you advise if this is genuine or a scam?

@C4keW4rs83  it’s genuine.  You should only get these when MMS isn’t enabled on your device but occasionally you do get them when it is.
