Hi.. today I received a call from a very similar number to mine just a couple end digits off.. the guy said he was returning a call I just made to him (which I hadn't) and then I told him I had not called him and he said OK no worries bye.
Thinking this was an anomaly of some sort I went on with my day.. then when I was away from my phone around an hour later another different number very similar to mine I have a missed call from.. no message left.
I am not sure what the scam could be here..is someone else somehow using my number to call people?

I'm just finding it so irritating the way the mods just brushing this off and deflecting the issue.
From the comments you can clearly see a large number of users have been affected over last couple of months. Some sort of serious security breach has taken place recently.
Ofcom isn't dealing with this specific incident. They just state in general that they are working against number spoofing.
But it is clear that something must have happened recently which has got fraudsters attacking EE customers specifically.
Waiting to hear some sort of security data breach at EE in the news soon.

Hi @Sully89
As mentioned earlier in the thread, unwanted marketing calls and number spoofing (where nuisance callers and criminals deliberately alter the caller ID) are problems that affect users of all mobile networks and aren't an indication of a data breach.
You can find out more about number spoofing on the Ofcom website.
You can report the call to EE Just text 'call' to 7726 followed by a space, then the number that called you, we use the data collected to help protect all of our customers.

I've had 4 today so far, all from a number very similar to my own. First one was recorded message saying they were government authority and I had been reported for using my NI number fraudulently - I hung up and blocked it but I've had 3 similar ones today which I've ignored/blocked them all.
Worrying!!!!

Just received a recorded message with one of my phone number digits changed to a 0. I will report as per your advice.

Hi @rotjeknor
Thanks for coming to the community and letting us know.
That would be great if you can report this by texting CALL, followed by the number to 7726, we use the data collected to help protect all of our customers.

The same has just happened to me.
2 calls, same number. He was returning my call, adamant that I had just called him twice. So indicates my number has probably been used to spoof the other person.
I've just reported via the details provided (in case he was actually checking to see if my number was active), but also feel worried that this may be reporting an innocent EE customer.
My major concern is if others are now reporting my number to EE for calling them and I worry about the negative effects I may experience for my number being used to spoof other callers.
Can anyone at EE give us indication of what happens if these reports against us build up in the case of our number being. Whilst I understand EE can't do much in terms of preventing this from happening, the replies on here don't fill me with much confidence that we won't be penalised if there are reports on our numbers.

I have just report 6 such different numbers identical to mine apart from the last 3 digits that have been phoning me since the 16th April. I have also received a couple of scam texts in this same period. It is rather unnerving to receive these calls I have to say.

Clearly this is not resolving the issue so please stop sending the same cookie cutter response and make sure this is escalated properly!! I have had 9 calls over the past 6 hours from numbers similar to my own and my patience on this matter is already wearing incredibly thin.

My advise is don't answer ANY calls if you don't recognise the number. I can't understand people who do this, it is asking to be scammed. I know it is frustrating but it doesn't matter how you try and prevent this sort of thing, the spammers and scammers will just find another way round it.
Last week I got a couple of calls from numbers similar to mine; I didn't answer them, just blocked them and deleted them. I've had no trouble since. Take responsibility for your own security, this sort of thing is not going to go away.

Doesn't help if you use a mobile as part of your business though? If I didn't answer calls then I wouldn't have any clients.
