number not accepted on universal credit claim

hi, i purchased an EE sim card and went to update my number with universal credit however it wont allow me to as the number is connected with another current claim account, does this mean that the number is recycled but yet still active because UC will not allow me to use this number and so I'm going to have to buy another sim.

Welcome to the community. 

The number may be recycled but will not be active with someone else, it could be that someone has not updated their details. 

I would recommend getting in touch with those who deal with your Universal Credit and advise them of this.
