took out a sim deal yesterday  but nothing as come over yet changing from o2 and keeping my number

Yes, you'll need a new SIM if you're switching from another network.

Did you order your SIM only plan online?

@sydallen1   It takes up to 24 hours for a number to port over.   If it’s not done by tomorrow morning it’ll be best to call customer services about this. 

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

 do I not need a new sim card  I am using a samsung  s20 fe ?

  I switched over from o2 on Monday  they sent a email saying it would take 24  hrs to port my number over  but  nothing as come over I am still on o2 network

If you do, have you popped it into your phone to activate it?

no went online got a 24 mth contract   they have never mentioned a sim just said my old number will port over

Your number port won't start until you have received your SIM and activated it.

It'll arrive in the post in 2-5 working days.
