I will be coming to the UK and then on to France. How do I buy an Esim card to use on this trip.

You will not be able to buy an eSim from EE as a PAYG Customer it would need to be a Physical Sim (3 in One).

For Heathrow have a look here does this help -
Apart from the Airports there are numerous Local Shops and Supermarkets that will Sell Sim Cards, or if you prefer you could pop into an EE Store -

If you purchase an EE SIM card to activate the SIM for roaming, you would need to make a call or send a text on the EE network in the UK before you travel to France.

EE PAYG Sim Cards do work in EU (EU Roaming) but you will need to Activate the Card for EU Roaming before you leave the UK and look at All the Payment Options available to you whilst Roaming, as this can change from time to time.
