Time limit on replacement sim activation

My phone was stolen and I had a sim only contract with EE. I want to buy a new phone but it will not arrive for the next few days. I want to get the replacement sim today just so I am prepared for when the phone arrives. If I get the replacement sim today, is there a time limit on when it has to be activated? Or can it be activated after a few days?

Have you reported the stolen phone to EE?

Have they blocked the sim only for the current sim?

If not you will be liable for any calls made by the thief up until the point you report it stolen.
