Replacement Sim not activating

Hi, I ordered a replacement SIM card as my old one failed, i put the replacement one in my phone yesterday and it’s still not activated, on the letter i received with the sim it said that i don’t need to do anything to activate it and it should work straight away. Anyone know what i should do?
