Still with BT mobile - Living in Sweden - eSim Activation

Hello, I've been with BT for my pay Monthly SIM for many years, looking to downgrade the package on it to have less data as it's not needed. The issue is that BT migrated to EE at some point so I can no longer just swap my plan, I'd have to fully move over to EE

I'd have to either get a new physical SIM which said that I'd have to be in the UK to activate it, however the eSIM didn't mention if I need to be in the UK for activation. Does anyone know if I can just swap my plan over, pick eSIM then activate it from a different country or does eSIM also require UK activation?

An eSIM would also require UK activation.
