Sim card disconnected

Sim card is being read as disconnected and i can only make "emergency calls". I have cleared my cache, swapped sim card slots and restarted multiple times but still no change. Can anyone help please?

I tried the sim in another phone and the same happened, so looked like a fault with the sim.
I've just been to my local ee shop and the assistant changed over the sim and all is good now. He said all of a sudden a lot of people are developing sim problems. Last week, 8 customers in 1 day came in needing a new sim.

Are you in the UK or roaming?

Used it yesterday.
The message had been showing intermittently the past few days but today it is there permanently.

Are you able to try the SIM card in another phone to see if the same happens?
This will help us to know if this is the SIM card that has become faulty.
