RCS chat

Hi I ported my 3 number to ee and it completed successfully but….….when I send an ordinary message ( not WhatsApp or Messenger) to my wife the wrong number appears on her phone, ie the number ee sent with their new sim. In RCS chat settings it shows this new /wrong number. I tried “ verify my number” to change it to the old/correct number but it hasn’t worked. Any ideas folks, what am I doing wrong ? TIA

Thanks @SafferMike.

We've had a thread about this in the past, and there are a few different solutions people have proposed for helping kick the change of number into motion.

One suggestion is to disable RCS for a few days and to clear the cache for your default messaging app, and this can help force it to update with Google.
Alternatively, another user suggests that requesting a replacement SIM that's activated with the correct number can help resolve this too.

Good morning @SafferMike.

Welcome to the EE Community 😊

What model of phone are you using at the moment?
Also whilst this will sound really simple, have you tried restarting your device since the port completed?

Hi Peter it’s Samsung A05….not a silly question, yes I tried multiple switch on / off etc. Google search says the verify my number process should work but it doesn’t…someone suggested it might take 24 hours to update but it’s been about three days now….so I’m a bit stumped

May be sorted for you now? However, I have had same problem and offered varying advice similar to that already here - including a new SIM with my ported number on. I was told to just leave RCS chats off to stop this problem - which it does, but then you can't use RCS chats features.

So my cure : edit your numbers in your Google account and bin the number you don't want. Make sure your Google account is backed up. Then clear cache AND clear storage.  Don't worry you will get your chats back when sign in again to messages and RCS enabled again with the ported number! I didn't even need to restart)/turn it on and off again!
