A mystery that seems common on this forum, so apologies to those who are bored... but I can't actually get to an answer
BT are moving me & and my family over to EE as our contract came up for renewal - a better deal, so all sounded great. We're on the BT family SIM - four SIM only contracts, all on my account.
I was told no need to do anything other than put EE SIMs in our phones when the SIMs arrive. Don't do anything with the PAC codes - just pop in the SIMs and the porting process will start automatically.
So four SIMs have arrived - one for each of us - but I have no idea which SIM corresponds to which of our existing numbers.
Customer services can't help, because I can't get past the security questions. (No password set up, because I'm a new customer. No previous bills, so I can't confirm the amount. Can't send me a verification text because I dare not pop in one of the new SIMs and start the porting process until I know which old SIM will die the next day)
So I have no idea which SIM is which, and apparently no way of finding out. Am I just meant to do a lucky dip on each of our phones and hope we don't end up with each other's old numbers when the porting process completes the next day? Because that would be mad when we need our phones at work.
And does the porting process really just start automatically as soon as we put the new SIMs in our phones?
Tl;dr - four family SIMs being ported by BT to EE. New SIMs arrived. How do I know which new SIM corresponds to which old SIM / phone number?
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

Hi @Sirjamesp,
Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂
I'm sorry to hear you were unable to pass the security check on your EE account.
Yes, your number ports should start automatically now you have received your new SIM cards.
I would recommend contacting BT Mobile on 150 from your current SIM. They should be able to take you through security on that account and get you the information you need.
Hope this helps.

Brilliant - thank you. Called BT, and they were able to tell me which SIM was which.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction 😊
