When you say its asking you to buy roaming do you mean when you try and connect on data its taking you to an add-on page to buy a 1 or 7 day pass?
Do you know the name of your current plan? Depending on what plan you have and when you took the plan out it can change how inclusive roaming for the USA works. Some plans will have inclusive roaming for the USA as part of the plan and does not need activating.
Older plans may have USA roaming as an inclusive extra, in which case the right extra for Zone 1 roaming would need to be selected.
