sim card not working in thailand

my esim card receives txt messages in thailand from the uk but I cant send any txt message or make any phone calls.
I am on PAYG and I have credit EE told me I need to send 1 txt per month to keep my number active, I dont want to lose my number as I have had it for years. Im in thailand till next year I called EE and explained everything to them and they said it would be fine. but I cant send any txt top keep my number active.
Local sim card works fine.
Iphone 14 pro max

EE standard opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 9pm - Saturday and Sunday, 8am to 8pm.
