I'm flying abroad in a few days, and not topping up my data. Back only in a years time. By that time my SIM card would not be valid anymore. This happens each year I return to UK.

There's no way to keep my SIM card alife, as it were.

Your post reads like a statement of fact, rather than a question.... PAYG phones are subject to the hibernation policy which requires chargeable usage at least once every 179days to remain active.

Top up the min. you can before you leave UK & while you are abroad send a chargeable text (i.e. not to 150) within every 179 days.
