Send SMS from abroad on pay as you go

Hi EE Community,

I’m currently abroad (for about a month). Before leaving the UK, I requested to change my SIM-only plan to Pay As You Go, and the change was processed while I was abroad. However, I’m now unable to send a text to EE 150—it says “Not Delivered.” I’ve also tried texting a friend with a UK number, but I’m experiencing the same issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @yuryt

Welcome to the community.

If the number moved to pay as you go while you were already abroad, that will be what is causing this.

With any number on pay as you go, whether it be a new SIM or moving from pay monthly, the SIM needs to be connected to the network in the UK to enable all services. If you were already abroad when the pay as you go account activated, it will prevent outgoing usage until it is used back in the UK.

It isn't something that we can override or get around as it will need that network connection.

Thank you for your help.
I can’t travel to the UK straight away, and I was wondering how much time I have until my phone number gets deactivated.
Thank you.

PAYG lines are subject to the hibernation policy. Chargeable usage is required at least once every 179 days, with a further 3months grace to reactivate before outright disconnection after 273 days.
