Hi, I'm hoping someone can help as I'm totally stumped.
Bought a 99p sim card yesterday to put into an old phone.. I haven't put any credit on it at all.
It doesn't work for calls, but for some reason WhatsApp, YouTube and the browser are all fully functioning!!??
Does anyone please have any idea why this would be? As I say I've not put any credit on it, and the current balance is zero.
Thanks in advance!
Paul

What does texting AL to 150 from it fully report verbatim (it is free)?
I believe you get a free 50MB data with new PAYG. It'll be using that until it exhausts.

Hi, thank you !
It says:
Your current balance as of today is £0.00 and then info on how to buy packs !
Very odd
Maybe it is the 50mb free data you mention, haven't seen that anywhere before but it stumped me !
Thanks for your help 🙂

What does your online MyEE say about your current Pack, allowances & credit? It'll be on the landing or My EE Mobile page.

You don't need a sim to use whatsapp, so a sim with no credit on it wouldn't cause any problems.

You need a valid and active Mobile Number in order to Register an Account with WhatsApp, after a successful Account Registration you can on WhatsApp use either a Data Connection over Mobile Data or a WiFi Connection, WhatsApp may from time to time ask for a valid Mobile Number identification to confirm your identity, either way you will not be able to use WhatsApp on a Mobile Phone without WiFi access if the Sim has no Data Access, I would favor @XRaySpeX reasoning that the PAYG Sim had some short of short preloaded Data amount

Can't really say anymore than EssexBoy did in their reply- once you've got a WhatsApp account you will need data to use it. Of course I'm on WiFi at home, and the daughters phone is connected so that works, but my question is how it can work when you're not at home, with no data on the sim.
