I have received this text whilst abroad for a few months. How can I resolve this problem as i don't want to loose my number?
Hi, just a reminder that you need to make a chargeable call/text or use data otherwise you may lose your number and any available credit. To check your balance text BA to 150.

Right-oh Katie, I will attempt to explain what I think the situation is.
At the end of the message the instruction to check your balance results in receiving 2 texts - one has balance information, the other advising the 3G support stopping next month. My plan is 3G so, as advised in the text, to access mobile data I need to move to a 4G plan, however I do not use mobile data (not even a bit !! or a byte even!) The text does explain that texts and calls will continue on 2G, so that'll do for me.
The customer services rep. was helpful in assuring me that my monthly pack arrangement would continue and I wouldn't loose my number and any available credit as mentioned in the original text. The original text could have been worded better, however in a nutshell I think those affected are those with a 3G plan who use and want to continue mobile data, need to change to a 4G plan.
