I have spent hours trying to remove a phone from the basket. I have not confirmed the order, but for piece of mind I would like it out of the basket. Tried looking at previous answers about using a pencil app? and clearing Google cookies(didn't work)
Why is it so hard to remove something!

Can you log out of your EE account, clear both Cache and Cookies and then log back in?

I have tried that multiple times and also tried another device and still encounter the same issue.

On this occasion it would be best to contact Customer Care team so they can raise a ticket for the experience you're facing with your account / basket not clearing.
