Roam Abroad Pass Pro Rata?

Hi folks,

Sorry for yet another Roam Abroad Pass (RAP) question. I am seeing many mixed answers on posts regarding the RAP, I was hoping to clear up my confusion going forward to avoid unnecessary expense.

Is the RAP add-on charged pro rata at all? Some comments on posts say yes, some no, but I may be misreading and people may be referring to the previous Roam FURTHER Pass.

Is there anybody on here that has used the RAP across billing months recently with any feedback?

Scenario:

My contract was taken out after July 2021. My bill cycle date is 26th every month. My phone is set up for roaming. I will be in Spain from 21/06/23 - 27/06/23 and will likely be making calls/using data.

If I add the RAP to my account on 21/06/23 and remove it when back in the UK on 27/06/23:

1) Will I be charged a pro-rata amount from 21/06/23 - 25/06/23 inclusive e.g. £15 / 31 days x 5 days = £2.42 (give or take)?  Then for my remaining 2 days in Spain, 26/06/23 - 27/06/23, I will be charged the full £15 for the next bill month of 26/06/23 - 26/07/23 with no part refund even if I cancel the RAP on 27/06/23? - so £17.42 in total.

2) Pure and simply, will I just be charged £30 for having the RAP as an active add-on across 2 bill months irrespective of when it's actually active on my account in the bill months?

Granted, whichever of the above two is correct, my best option for my Spain trip is to just pay the £2.29 daily EU roam charge for the 7 days I'm away (£16.03 total). But I just wanted clarification for future trips as I will be heading to the USA for a few weeks in November but that trip is within one bill month.

So for the USA trip I'll definitely add the RAP to my account on 01/11/23 when I leave the UK and cancel it on 14/11/23 when back in the UK...so for this again I don't know if I'd pay a pro-rata amount (e.g. £15 / 31 days x 25 days from 01/11/23 - 25/11/23 inclusive = £ 12.09) or just pay one lot of £15 (hopefully I'm not charged £30 if I add the RAP and cancel it within the same bill month).

It is rather confusing!

The previous Roam Further Pass was pro-rated both at the beginning & end billing months.

However the Roam Abroad Pass is not. It is certainly not pro-rated on the final billing month; you pay a full £15 for the whole billing month. However it is not clear, to me at least, whether it is pro-rated for the initial billing month.

How much does the Roam Abroad Pass cost?

£15 per month. This cost will be added to your monthly mobile bill and will appear as a separate line in the add-ons section of your bill.

How do I remove my roaming pass?

If you cancel during your monthly billing period you’ll be charged £15 for the full month, not just for the days you had the pass.




The latter tells you that you pay for a full billing month when you cancel but no such statement is made for when you start.

Thanks for the feedback. It was those bits on the EE site I saw too. It seems quite clear as you say re: full £15 charge in a subsequent billing month you decide to cancel the RAP. It's just the first month when you add it mid month. 

Hopefully someone out there who has used it recently across billing months can enlighten us. A £30 charge for 7 days of use across 2 bill months would be excessive!

My understanding is that pro-rata charges apply to the adding of the pass, but not the removal. You therefore also need to factor in your billing date to any calculations.

You have mentioned being in Spain from 21-27, and your bill cycle is refreshed on 26. So you'll get 21st-25th at pro-rata, but then be charged from 26/06 - 25/07 providing it is cancelled at some point in that period.

Thanks for the reply. So on that premise, in theory I could add it on 21st, cancel it on 25th within the bill month via the app (and I should be charged £2.42ish pro rata) and then just pay the £2.29 a day for 26th and 27th.... so that would be £7ish in total as opposed to the £16 in my original post.

It would! Whether it's pro-rated or not  at the start there's no point in getting at all when you can pay £2.29 for each day of the 7 days = £16.03.
