Game Pass Ultimate

I'm just looking at the Game Pass Ultimate subscription as part of the allrounder plan, but how does it work if I already have just over 12 months of Game Pass Ultimate with Microsoft?  

I've seen some posts to say that it will switch to the EE after the Microsoft one expires but that means I'm paying 12 months with EE and not using it.

EE standard opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 9pm - Saturday and Sunday, 8am to 8pm.

Ok so effectively I'll be wasting 12months with EE if I started now as I still have 12months with Microsoft left
