I was sent a message to switch on my phone and would recieve a text to either buy a data roaming pack or pay for data daily.

I have chose ROAMPACK10 and now it says that I didn't switch on data roaming at home, so it cannot connect?? Did I know or notified of this?? YET, £10 is taken from my account and I can't use the pack!!!

Money back please or connect me to the data!!.

@DialerPhone75  If you’re on PAYG you don’t need to activate roaming it’s already activated on PAYG.   Roaming only needs to be activated if you’re a contract customer and that’s best done within the UK by texting ROAMING to 150.      Have you tried just restarting the device ?

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

@DialerPhone75 : Had you used that PAYG SIM for making calls or texts in UK before going abroad? To be used abroad EE PAYG SIMs need 1st activating on EE's home UK network. If it wasn't you can't now use it until you return to UK.

Hi.

Yes. Restarted it twice and the message comes back the same. Can't connect data because it wasn't switched on at home, or words to that effect.

It now ironically turns out that the WiFi here in our hotel, particularly room is very good, so didn't need to buy it after all, BUT I have been charged for it, so should still be able to use it, which I can't.

It's not a SIM  It's an add on to my PAYG account, so that I didn't incur extra data charges to use while here in Greece.

If it's not working as it should, I will be ringing EE, when I get back to the UK.

Hey there @DialerPhone75.

The reason @XRaySpeX was asking about your SIM is due to the way roaming activates on your pay as you go account.

It doesn't need a specific feature to be added like on pay monthly, but to activate it you do need to have made a chargeable call or text on the EE network prior to going away.
Did you do that with this SIM?

Also when was it this error saying roaming needed to be activated came up, and if possible can you please send us over a screenshot?
Peter

Hi.

  • I didn't make a chargeable call  with this SIM, but update is I think it is now activated, because I switched on data roaming on my phone, switched off WiFi and switched on DATA. Went onto a website for 30secs, then checked in my EE account data usage and it's gone from 8GB to 7.2GB.

Perhaps there was a blip in it working because we were going to the hotel on a back dirt road, so maybe couldn't connect there.

Fingers crossed it is now working OK and I can use it while we're away from the hotel.

Thanks for the update here @DialerPhone75 😊

If data roaming was restricted in your handset settings, then this definitely would have had an effect on the ability for the connection and pack kicking in.

When you're off WiFi, do you see  signal bars and a 4G / 5G connection?

Also when you initially arrived did you get a landing message confirming you had arrived in a new country, listing any potential charges too?
Peter

Hi.

Yes all those things. We will be away from the hotel in a couple of days, so I'll use it then and be sure to check my EE account for data usage.

Many thanks for your help.
