You have been misadvised, receiving calls in Australia is included in your Roam Abroad pass - see https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile/roaming/roaming-costs/countries/australia and select "yes" to Roam Abroad pass.

WhatsApp, Messenger & suchlike are internet-apps and all usage of them is charged accordingly. "Calls" made via these are not handled by your phone or mobile network as calls, but as data usage.

WhatsApp just uses data from your allowances.

I have bought Roam Abroad Pass for £25 per month and been advised I could use I would as in home and my current data allowance will apply. However, an EE guide told me receiving a call is chargeable. I would also like to know if this also applies to WhatsApp calls. I hope as long as they are within my data allowance I shouldn’t be charged extra? Any guidance will be much appreciated thanks

A WhatsApp call isn't a mobile call. It just comes out of your data. Your data when roaming is limited to 50 GB / month.

Also the EE agent was wrong. Receiving a mobile call is not chargeable.
