Stuck in Australia with voice not working

I recently purchased an Unlimited Full Works plan and am now in Australia. The data connects fine, but whenever I call I get silence, and the call terminates after 10 seconds or so. The 150 text message service doesn't work, ROAMING and SPEND CAP refuse to send claiming it would take me over my spend cap. I've turned my spend cap off but it makes no difference.

The EE chat system seems to only be AI and I can't find any email address, so I'm stuffed with no way to contact customer services. Skype and WhatsApp don't allow me to call UK customer services either.

Is there any way to contact customer services in my situation?

I’ve been having this issue on recent trips and I believe it to be down to the lack of VoLTE (4G calling) when roaming.

This is because your data is working perfectly (suspect you’re getting brilliant 5G) meaning any WhatApp / FaceTime / any calls over voip will be perfect. But when you make / receive a BAU call, you’ll lose 4G / 5G and in the old days you’d drop back to 3G. A lot of countries now don’t have 3G so you find yourself on the old 2G / GSM network which isn’t great.

I have now resigned myself to using FaceTime / WhatsApp calling when roaming as when I tried to make regular voice calls, I had exactly the issue you described.

Even today, my boss, roaming with EE in South Africa commented that it isn’t working for voice calls and he called instead over FaceTime.

So long reply short, as soon as EE catch up and offer VoLTE when roaming, this voice issue will be surely be resolved.

In any country where VoLTE is required, VoLTE should be available - this should only currently apply to the US. Australian networks still support 2G CSFB for voice if VoLTE doesn't work.

Are the symptoms the same across all local networks? Manually checking each one in turn should be part of basic first-line checks.

Thanks all. I had tried Skype earlier and it didn't work, but fortunately it did now. I just have to wait until the office reopens. I also tested and found that the YES OPTUS network is the problem, and Telstra allowed me to call.
