Unable to get a signal roaming in Mexico

Mdasx

I have a contract and activated roaming and paid 15 pounds for relevant roaming monthly add on before I left.
I cannot access any signal on my ee sim. I have had to resort to buying a n esim which works fine so it is not the networks here at fault.

I have sone all of the things suggested in the previous thread ( copied below) apart from calling CS. I can’t see how to call without a phone signal.
I think the problem may be with “ network service provider” under mobile data settings. When I click in that it just says contact ee 150. Obviously I can’t do that.

advice welcone as I have now wasted the roaming and am paying for esims Tha ks

ps previous thread

@JF34 : Are you on contract or PAYG? Did you use that SIM for making calls or texts in UK before you left to go abroad?

If you are on contract, did you activate roaming on your EE a/c before you left UK by texting ROAMING to 150? Having a roaming add-on doesn't of itself activate roaming on your a/c.

Often just rebooting the phone is the simple remedy. Also try selecting a network manually rather than auto. Otherwise login to your MyEE account online & go to Menu > Account Settings > Parental and Data Controls > Roaming Abroad and also Call Abroad and Premium Rate. They will show as ticked if roaming and calling abroad is activated. If not ticked, can you activate these settings?

If you can't enable the Roaming Abroad and the Call Abroad & Premium Rate settings of your online MyEE, you will need to call CS. Try calling CS on the Freephone no. in my sig. via Skype over WiFi. It should be free.

PAYG is auto enabled for roaming as long as you've used the SIM in the UK previously. You won't see any of those settings & don't need to change anything. If outside EU, do you have enough credit for making calls & texts from abroad?”

All of them including texting ROAMING to 150 before you left UK?

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

Yes as I said I got the roaming add on for 15 pounds per month ( by texting 150 before I left) , I did all of them except call.

I don’t know how to call on Skype I will try to work it out.

I see there are many others who are having the same problem.

I think t is an o2 problem ( network service provider says to contact ee)  as i mentioned

The Call Abroad Pass is merely a billing add-on when you are roaming but of itself it doesn't give you the permission to roam.

What does give you permission then? V disappointed everyone else is fine ( no on ee)

Gosh, also as I said, I did everything suggested. This includes texting roaming to 150 before I left - screenshot below- assume that’s correct?

You have texted ROAMING PASS to 150 - this adds the billing add-on.

This is useless without the roaming facility being enabled, this allows access to foreign networks. This is done by texting ROAMING to 150.

This completely explains your symptoms, and will only be resolved by EE CS being contacted to enable roaming - either from another phone or via a web-calling app such as Skype.

No, you didn't! You texted ROAMING PASS to 150, a horse of entirely a diff colour! What you texted buys you a billing add-on to help pay when roaming is enabled for your a/c but it doesn't actually activate roaming. As I keep telling you this is the reason why roaming is not working for you.

Ok I see I should have texted roaming to 150. Having already acquired and paid for a roaming pass. I must have missed this on the instructions before I went.

fortunately I am only here two more days, and managed to buy a Mexican esim, ( with j structures in Spanish, ) with ease which I am using. I cannot call ee. I will just remove roaming pass now and put it down to experience.
my contract is finished now so I can consider changing.

thanks for responding
