Did you mean:

Roaming doesn’t work in Singapore

PhilC42

I purchased the data roaming pack, enabled roaming with EE, confirmed that it is enabled by SMSing “ROAMING” to 150, roaming and mobile data enabled in my iPhone settings, I even restarted my phone several times, but data roaming STILL doesn’t work and I am STILL being charged extra for each SMS

anything else I can try?

I see EE removed the chat facility so I cannot speak to them any more without incurring huge phone charges

@PhilC42 : Are you on contract or PAYG? Did you use that SIM for making calls or texts in UK before you left to go abroad?

Having a roaming add-on doesn't of itself activate roaming on your a/c.

Often just rebooting the phone is the simple remedy. Also try selecting a network manually rather than auto. Otherwise login to your MyEE account online & go to Menu > Account Settings > Parental and Data Controls > Roaming Abroad and also Call Abroad and Premium Rate. They will show as ticked if roaming and calling abroad is activated. If not ticked, can you activate these settings?

If you can't enable the Roaming Abroad and the Call Abroad & Premium Rate settings of your online MyEE, you will need to call CS. Try calling CS on the Freephone no. in my sig. via Skype over WiFi. It should be free.

PAYG is auto enabled for roaming. You won't see any of those settings & don't need to change anything. If outside EU, do you have enough credit for making calls & texts from abroad?

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

@PhilC42  You will be charged for SMSes as your tariff doesn’t cover you while you are there.

Sending a text message ( SMS ) ( Green text Bubble ) doesn’t use your data allowance.  Sending an iMessage ( Blue text bubble ) does use your data allowance and these are only apple device to apple device.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

@PhilC42  Have you tried turning off mobile data roaming within your iPhone settings ? and then restarted the device?   If calls and text work then roaming is working on your device and it’s something else stopping this from working.

hi

many thanks for replying, I found the settings on the phone app, but not on the web app, there seems to be a lot of differences between the two .. on the phone app, I found the Roaming setting, it says it is 'blocked' and it won't allow me to change it, the app throws up an error.

It is a shame EE took away the chat feature, we used to be able to resolve issues, I don't have Skype, I don't really want to go downloading apps just to chat to EE, so I guess I will have to do without a phone whilst I travel unfortunately..

cheers

Phil

Hi Leanne

yes I can make calls and send SMS etc, just mobile data is blocked here and the EE app fails when I try to enable the setting, the phone settings are all correct, one might hope that when you purchase a roaming pack etc. there is some sanity checking of these settings to ensure that customers are not wasting their money 🙂

Hi @PhilC42

If you can make calls and send texts, roaming is activated for you.

What happens when you try and use data?

Have you manually selected a different network?

Leanne.

hi Leanne

when I try to use data, nothing happens, the apps, such as Facebook, Strava etc. don't throw up any errors, they just don't display any data. I have manually selected a couple of different networks yes, no change

cheers

Phil

What type of signal is it showing that you have, @PhilC42?

Are you able to view this data add-on status website, to see if you have an active data add-on?
