I'm in Uganda and my EE SIM will receive texts but not send them. I need to be able to send a text periodically in order to keep my SIM active while I'll be out of the UK for more than 6 months. When I go onto the EE app and try to select roaming in Uganda it tells me something went wrong, try again later, but that seems to be a permanent condition. Any advice?

Did you receive a welcome text message on first arrival in Uganda?
Can you make & receive calls?

I did receive a welcome message on arrival, yes. I don't seem to be able to make calls either but have received a few texts.

@Andrew00000 , In order to make calls, you will need to have credit on your account, especially if you are on pay as you go.
I would take a look here:

Yes, I do have credit on the pay as you go SIM.

I have seen that information on EE but it all refers to setting up roaming before leaving the UK. I didn't do that, so now what I'd like to know is if it is possible to get set up for roaming even though I'm already out of the country. I will not be back in time to set it up before the SIM stops working due to inactivity.

@Andrew00000 , if on pay as you go, then roaming is set up automatically.
The link I gave you actually does say where are you roaming to, put in the country and it should then show how much it will cost to make calls and send text.
