I wondered if anybody can help, I have a pretty old Samsung mobile and EE pay as you go, don’t have data on my phone as I rarely use it only really a few texts and calls, however over the last few day when I either call someone or someone calls me I cannot hear the person on the other end of the call, complete silence, phone rings but the caller cannot here me, tried moving the SIM card to another phone but it is just the same so now thinking it is something with the SIM card, anybody have any advice on what is going on?

Hi @ji2611,

Welcome to the EE Community

Have all the calls you tested been in one area? As if so potentially it could be something going on in your area causing the issue, you can use our checker here Service Status Checker | Check Network Problems in Your Area | EE

If not it does seem to be an issue with your SIM since it happened in two different phones and  you may need a replacement SIM.

If you have an EE store nearby you can pick one up free from an EE store with photo-ID EE Store Finder | How to find your nearest EE store | EE. Or if you have another number you can call us on 07953 966 150 from any phone to check your account and arrange a replacement.

Thanks for your reply ….all calls have not been from the same area…I eventually telephoned EE and after many questions they moved my query on to another level and I was told that EE were aware of this problem as they have had many calls over the last few days with the same issue and they  are working on the problem, don’t know if I am just being fobbed off as I have now found out that that networks are changing at the end of the month and that 3G and below would be switched off ….I have an old style phone with no data on my EE plan….so not quite sure who to believe!

EE's 3G network has been switched off since late 2024. 2G remains live and there are no plans for switchoff.

I've no idea what the comment about the end of the month means.

Thanks for your reply….that is good news then …I was given to understand my phone would be obsolete after the end of the month….however I still cannot hear any calls on my phone, I can text but any calls I make the phone rings and the person answering can hear me but I cannot hear them and if I receive a call I answer and the caller can hear me but I cannot hear them so I hope as EE told me last night it is an issue with many others and they are dealing with it ….I hope quickly!
